Charente, one the suniest french regions is famous for its beaches, islands and glorious maritime past, with La Rochelle and Rochefort. On the mainland side, it is blessed by the gods, with Gallo-Roman remains in Saintes and with Cognac. It is crossed by the eponym river, called by French King Francis 1st the most beautiful river of his kingdom.

During our tour, we will explore both sides, rowing on the river Charente in Saintes and in Cognac as well as in La Rochelle and from the Oléron island on coastal boats.

We will spend 5 nights in Saint-Savinien in a family château with 8 rooms, each with its bathroom, and a swimming pool, the perfect place to relax after rowing and visiting.

On the first day, you will discover the Marne river in our home base in Le Perreux before reaching our destination. Our return trip will include a stop in Angers where you will row on the beautiful Maine.

 

Programme

Saturday: Hotel check-in in Neuilly Plaisance

Sunday: Rowing on the Marne in Le Perreux. Transfer to the Montparnasse station. Destination: Niort by TGV (high speed train). Night in the château in Saint-Savinien

Monday: Rowing on the Charente in Saintes. Visit of Saintes. Night at the château

Tuesday: Rowing on the Charente in Cognac (or Saintes). Visit to the Hennessy distillery and cellars in Cognac. Night at the château.

Wednesday: City tour of La Rochelle. Coastal rowing. Night at the château

Thursday: Coastal rowing in Oléron. Visit to the Rochefort town and historical arsenal. Night at the château

Friday: Drive to Angers. Rowing on the river Maine. Night in Angers.

Saturday: Return to Le Perreux. Lunch. End of the tour at around 3pm.

 

Boats used: yolettes (aka touring quads, C-Vierer) and coastal quads

Daily rowing distance: average 15 km, maximum 20 km
